History
Discover the rich history and heritage of Thandokhulu High School, where tradition meets innovation in education.
Journey to the Past
Thandokhulu High School opened in the early 1990s, housed in a modest building that has since been expanded and renovated. The site was originally known for its beautiful views of Table Mountain, which is reflected in the name "Thandokhulu" - meaning "love the hill" in isiXhosa.
The first principal established a vision of academic excellence and community service that continues to guide the school today. The founding class set high standards for achievement and community involvement that have become hallmarks of the Thandokhulu experience.
To date, Thandokhulu has seen only four principals, each building upon the foundation laid by their predecessors and adding their unique contributions to the school's development and culture of excellence.
Continued Development
Continued development has seen a number of facilities added over the years including modern science laboratories, computer centers, sports fields, a library resource center, and in 2018, a new multipurpose hall that serves as the heart of school gatherings and events.
The school currently has over 1,200 pupils and has built a strong reputation throughout the region for high levels of achievement in many spheres, most notably academically. Our dedicated, talented and experienced teachers stimulate all our pupils to achieve their best and as a result have developed an innovative programme that has helped make us a leading educational institution in the Western Cape.
So much so, that in recent years Thandokhulu has been recognized for its academic excellence and has been approached to offer support and mentorship to other schools in the region, sharing best practices and helping to raise educational standards across the community.
